The CinéGlobe festival rewarded yesterday the five best short films at the awards ceremony, accompanied by pianist Hector Martignon. The jazz musician, twice nominated for the Grammy’s, made the evening even more special.

The prestigious jury welcomed the diversity of films in competition by rewarding productions as diverse and varied, both in terms of topics as to their origin. Thus, the shocking documentary of the young Australian Madeleine Parry, Murder Mouth, which prompts us to ask questions about the meat that is on our plates, was awarded the Jury Prize for Best Documentary. In a different spirit, the Jury Prize for Best Fiction was given to French film Catharsis, by Cédric Prevost, who found a great way to show us how the film is rooted in our lives. Finally, La Huida, Spanish film by Victor Carrey was considered as the most representative film of the theme of this year, “Infinitely Interconnected” and received the Special Jury Prize.

Spectators have also made their choice during the festival, which was translated into two awards: the Audience Award for Best Documentary was given to Spaniard Alfonso Moral and Roser Corella, for the film Hombre Maquina, which shows that the public has been affected by the reflection on modernity and global development, shown in the film through the reality of Bangladesh. The Audience Award for Best Fiction was given to the hilarious Suiker by the Dutch Jeroen Annokkée; which describes an everyday situation which ends in gruesome misunderstanding.

Some of the films in competition are still being projected from noon thru 18h today at the Globe, the opportunity to (re) discover the high quality films specially selected for the festival. And to conclude with a flourish this third edition of CinéGlobe awaits you at 18h for a closing session that will present the winners and a film directed by jury member Andy Jones.

The audacity. This word runs through the third edition of CinéGlobe, starting this week. The festival, nestled in the heart of CERN, approach with curiosity our world, over films from the four corners of our planet, inspired by science and technology.
This year the festival perceives, through the films, questioning about mankind. Its place in the universe, new ways to communicate, to approach, to progress. But also the changes in the relationship between humans due to technological developements, its inputs and its impacts. Throughout these sessions, the great strength of this third edition is an inquisitive approach to science and art, society and its relationship to progress. The CinéGlobe is thus taking shape as a space of discovery, curiosity and reflection.
An international festival whose quality comes from a fact. Launched in an environment of excellence, it has set a mission: decipher our paths to the future and decipher our every day with interest, exigence and passion.

Winner of the Pariscience Film Festival in 2011, the docudrama A beating heart, will be presented for the first time in Switzerland, on Friday, March 30 at 20:30 at the Forum Meyrin, in the presence of director Sophie Révil.

First medical docu-drama, A beating heart shows the behind the scenes of one of the most exciting medical adventures of the twentieth century: a heart transplant. The film show us the most intimate decisions of families who have to go through the overwhelming gesture of giving a heart to save a life. Who would have predicted that one day we would be able to replace the heart like we replace an engine?

“The film conquered the hearts of the members of the selection committee”, reports Vincent Lamy, General Delegate of the Festival Pariscience. This is an exceptional documentary that mixes talent with the History of Science (including pictures of the first operations made by Professor Barnard in South Africa), a true societal and scientific description of the operation as practiced today in France, and a moving fictional story of the roles of donors and the race against the clock that characterizes a heart transplant.”

This film exemplifies the relationship between cinema and science. According to Mr. Lamy, “cinema and science are linked by common interests. Science is part of our history of past, present and future, while filmmaking opens the dialogue between science and society, providing a creative platform for documentaries in terms of form, but yet with seriously informed content.”

The Cinémathèque Suisse will open the third edition of CinéGlobe, international film festival, offering a retrospective of Swiss films of the 1950s and 1960s to trace the history of science films, on March 27.

The program for the evening will present four short films : Cinema Swiss Newspaper (1953-1959), Where Are We? (1960), The Way to the Invisible (1947) and Engineers (1965).

These four films observe the genesis of the relationship between cinema and science but also its evolution through time and technology development. The evening will offer a perfect introduction to this theme, bringing together film and science.

Since its inception, cinema has always been intrinsically linked to advances in science and technology: it is at the same time art, science and industry. A means through which to make pictures and tell the story of different worlds, real or imaginary. Visionary and forward-looking, film, like science, makes the invisible visible and… awakens our imagination! Chicca Bergonzi (Cinématheque Suisse).

Founded in 1943 to harvest and preserve the records of cinematography and to disseminate and share, the Cinématheque Suisse has some 1500 copies of films made available annually to Swiss and European theaters as well as festivals such as CinéGlobe.

The Director of the Cinématheque Suisse, Frédéric Maire, will give us the honor of introducing the session.
